MCITP Ent Admin --> MCSA Server 2008

Hi there,


I am currently rushing to complete my MCITP Enterprise Admin 2008, and was checking out the new certifications (MCSA 2008 ).

It seems if you have 70-640, 70-642 and MCITP 2008, Server Admin, then you complete the requirements for MCSA 2008.

But what about Ent Admin - reading the Microsoft pages, it seems they dont get a look in.

As I do intend moving on to MCSA 2012 after these 2008 exams, am I better of going in for Server Admin, rather than Ent Admin?

Completing the following will earn you MCSA Windows Server 2008 AND MCITP Server Administrator:
70-640 Active Directory
70-642 Network Infrastructure
70-646 Server Administrator

Completing the following will earn you ONLY MCITP Enterprise Administrator:
70-640 Active Directory
70-642 Network Infrastructure
70-643* Applications Infrastructure (retires on July 31 2013)
70-647* Enterprise Administrator (retires on July 31 2013)
and one of the following
70-620* Configuring Windows Vista (retires on July 31 2013)
70-680 Configuring Windows 7
70-681* Deploying Windows 7 (retires on July 31 2013)

Upgrading from MCSA 2008 to MCSA 2012 requires one exam:
70-417 Upgrading your skills to MCSA 2012

Note:
There is NOT an option to earn MCSE 2008.
You must upgrade to MCSA 2012 and then upgrade to MCSE 2012 (70-417, 70-413, 70-414)

OP: I am in the same boat. I take the 70-643 this morning. Fingers crossed.

Regarding MCITP: Enterprise Admin, if you pass all exams by July 31, you will be granted the titles:

MCITP: Enterprise Administrator
MCSA: Server Administrator
In addition, upon completion of each exam you are granted the MCTS title for that exam.

The upgrade path to MCSE 2012 is as follows:

Must have MCSA: SA 2008 (automatically granted if an enterprise administrator)
Then the 3 2012 upgrade exams which grants:

MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert): Server Infrastructure 2012

As to which is better depends on how you want your resume to read. As the majority of enterprises still use Server 2003, an MCSE is still the most valuable cert to have. Since you cannot get that any more, the MCITP:EA is next best, followed by MCSA: SA. After that, an MCSE 2000 and in dead last place, any 2012 cert.

Of course if you already have a job or are vying for a job that specifically needs say a Server 2012 MCSE, then that will be the most valuable cert to have. Its relative to your particular career and position.

If you earn your MCITP:EA before July 31, then you will also earn MCSA 2008. You will be able to take the upgrade exam for MCSA 2012 as well.

You can upgrade these certifications to the MCSA: Windows Server 2012 certification.
