OK, here's the lay of the land....I've got a BBA (Finance) and MBA (Healthcare Administration) and I work for a homecare company in Texas managing their network, doing desktop support, and database administration. I'm 42 and been doing this job for 6 years. No other IT experience other than that. No certs. Is reasonable for me to think getting certs at this stage of my career would open the job market up OR am I simply up against too much competition from other more "seasoned" folks and maybe I should consider a career change.
I'm not expecting to work for a Fortune 500 and make twice my salary. I would just like to have more IT jobs available to me.
Any input would be appreciated. I really don't want to go back into healthcare administration field. I actually enjoy troubleshooting computers and networks.

If no, then yes to certs but its very competive out here in Texas esp Austin. I think Dallas/Houston/San Antonio are better markets. What next?
