CCNA1 - repeaters and signal regeneration and retiming
adam.black
I'm working through the very beginning of the CCNA 1 curriculum. In module 2 I was reading about repeaters. The text says that they "regenerate and retime" signals. I understand about regeneration because the signal fades and gets overtaken by noise as it crosses the network medium. But I am unable to figure out what "retiming" is. Could anyone help me out?
thanks
adam

Everything on a single thernet segment has to be on the same clock, you will read later on about the clock rate for configuring certain wan interfaces as well. Think of it like a pulse of the network, if devices are out of sync than a 1 can be interpreted as a 0 and so forth. This is something that you do not configure and have no control over, its just a feature of ethernet.
