i jst took fourr fresh 2950 swithes in packet tracer 6.01.
i hooked them up .. and on one switch i ran sho ip int br and it showed my vlan as adminstratively down .. down ..
wherease show vlan shows it as active ? why?
arent these commands supposed to mean same thign when they speak in regards to down/up status ?
i however have attached two pcs .. one on one switch the other on other switch and can ping each other ..
thanks

When you run #show ip interface brief you are seeing interface vlan or Switched Virtual Interface (SVI) : SVI means virtual interface which provides a routed gateway into and out of a VLAN or simply a setup to make communication between different vlansFor CCNA / CCNP notes visit my blog http://sysnetnotes.blogspot.in/
