Hi all
Hi all,
Kinda new here...was a lurker for a few months then created an account. I just finished my CCNA and thought to squeeze in my Security+ before my next classes start.
Quick question. I was told by a coworker that since I have my CCNA that a strong majority of the exam would be on networking. I personally do not believe him so I thought to send out a quick message here.
I recently bought a book (coming in the mail, and was happy to see its one of the recommended books I see listed on this website) so I havent really started yet, just getting a quick feel for whats in store for me...

cyberguypr Mod Posts: 6,928 ModWelcome aboard. Your instincts were right. If you look at the exam objectives you'll see that network security is only 21% of the test. Definitely far away from a strong majority.
Does your colleague have Sec+? -

Apart from that, the best Sec+ book that I have seen is: CompTIA Security+: Get Certified Get Ahead: SY0-301 Study Guide: Darril Gibson: 9781463762360: Amazon.com: BooksFall 2014: Start MA in Mathematics [X]

I'm not sure if this is what you mean, but the exam is not modified based on your certifications. One person that has a CCNA won't have a different exam than another person that doesn't have an exam.
You will find that your networking knowledge will help you quite a bit with many of the topics. As Ivanjam mentions, with your previous certifications, you will find that you've covered a lot of the material on the exam. You should be able to complete this exam within a month, maybe quicker if you have a lot of free time and are a quick reader.
Good luck.
