Last Minute CCENT (ICND1 640-822) Questons

Been slowly studying for the CCENT for a while now. Decided to put a fire under my arse and force myself to get serious by finally scheduling the exam for a week from today.
Had today off so I spent the 1st half of today getting all my notes in order and performed a short initial review of all the material I've gone thru up until today. I'm sure I'll have plenty of last minute questions up until the day of the exam next Tuesday so I'm creating this thread. Any help answering anything that's stumping me would be greatly appreciated!! :D
(Anyone else currently studying for the exam, feel free to hi-jack the thread and post your own questions too!)

So, the 1st question - while going thru the Boson exam and I stuck at a sim.
The question said that I was unable to establish connection to the switch using the IP address I was provided. I'm supposed to find the IP address of a switch that was connected to a router.

Using show cdp neighbors detail I got one IP address for the switch.
Using show ip int brief I got a completely different IP address for the same interface the switch was connected to.

Why could/would this happen?
The Boson-given answer doesn't explain why the wrong answers are wrong. I decided to use the CDP advertised IP address when answering the sim and got it right, but my rationale behind using that probably isn't correct.

Same ExSim exam references Split Horizon and "Count to Infinity".
Just to confirm: these both are ICND2 topics and not covered on the ICND1?

First of all, good luck with the exam.
The question said thatI was unable to establish connection to the switch using the IP address I was provided. I'm supposed to find the IP address of a switch that was connected to a router.
This tells me that you're not on the switch but instead are on a router which is connected to a switch.
Using show cdp neighbors detail I got one IP address for the switch.
Using show ip int brief I got a completely different IP address for the same interface the switch was connected to.
Yes, you should because show cdp neighbors is going to give you the information about neighboring devices while show ip interface is going to give you the information about the interfaces themselves. The interfaces are, of course, local to the device (in this case, a router) while the switch is a completely different device; therefore, yes you will have 2 different addresses because these are 2 completely separate devices.
    Why could/would this happen?
The Boson-given answer doesn't explain why the wrong answers are wrong. I decided to use the CDP advertised IP address when answering the sim and got it right, but my rationale behind using that probably isn't correct.
I do not know what your rationale may have been but using that address was the correct option because you wanted to get the address of the connected switch, not the address of the local interface.

I hope this is all clear & that it assists.

I think I'm getting confused over simple concepts - I know the material but now I need to put all the little bits and pieces together into a cohesive whole.

Thanks Xyro, your explanation helped a lot.

It's not that unusual to get confused. ICND1 has a lot of material. Don't be too rough on yourself. I found the labbing has really helped me put a lot of information together.

    No problem, glad it did.
