Switch Lab
Question for those that have or have had labs for SWITCH studies. I'm looking to build a lab that will be as quiet as possible that I will use in my office here at work. Will 8 port switches be sufficient or do labs require 24 port switches? Looking to do 2 x 3560 and 2 x 2960. A total of 24 ports in the lab with each switch having a 1 gig port for interconnects.

The 8-port 3560s are pretty quiet, but they are painfully expensive compared to their 24/48 port brethren. -

Continuing that thought... have you considered building your lab at home and getting a console server so that you can access it remotely? An 8-port Digi CM can be had for less than $20. -

We have spare 8 port 3560s here at work so I don't have to buy anything. I'm going to keep a console cable on a desktop so I can access it from home using RDP. -

yep the 8 port 3560's are very quiet. We have a few laying around at work that I often plug in to do some configs. -

Curious where you're finding the console servers for less than $20.Visit my blog: http://www.packet6.com - I'm on the CWNE journey!
