Passed Sec+ last week, should I go back and take Network+
Ok, got my A+ back in 2001, then I was off the grid for a long time. Last week I took the Sec+ and passed. Should I go back and take the Network+? Looks like a lot of the info is similar.

lsud00d Member Posts: 1,571What do you think you need the N+ for? The S+ has more ROI than N+ so if you want something network-based I would recommend the CCENT over the N+.

But it would just be better to go into the ce program, and take higher level certs to renew it. so if you do go into the ce program just go for ccent.

To OP I think it depends on what you plan to do going forward whether you want to go for the Net+ or CCENT. However, if you plan on going for the CCENT eventually, you might want to simply jump straight into it.Goals for 2018:
Certs: RHCSA, LFCS: Ubuntu, CNCF CKA, CNCF CKAD | AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Solutions Architect Pro, AWS Certified Security Specialist, GCP Professional Cloud Architect
Learn: Terraform, Kubernetes, Prometheus & Golang | Improve: Docker, Python Programming
To-do | In Progress | Completed -
Darril Member Posts: 1,588@Howii411, Welcome to the forums. You're correct that there is a lot of crossover between Security+ and Network+. Also, you're close to the knowledge right now with the Security+ fresh in your mind and you understand how CompTIA tests work. Many people (including hiring managers) value the CompTIA trio of A+, Network+, and Security+, but candidates typically take them in that order.
If Cisco intrigues you, the CCNA would be more valuable than Network+. However, if you plan on going a different route (such as Microsoft), the Network+ would be valuable. You'll be done relatively soon and the knowledge will help you fill in any holes you might have in networking.
Good luck.
@DoubleNNS, you're correct. I saw the post about Network+ renewing Security+ and questioned it so looked it up. This verifies what you're saying: CE Program: Renewing Through Other Certifications -

P.S. Darril your book was great. -
Darril Member Posts: 1,588Thanks for the kind words on the Security+ book, Howie411. The Network+ is certainly within your grasp. Good luck.
