Can you still obtain an MCSDT ?
Moon Child
I thought it was a discontinued exam? If that is the case why are employers listing that certification as a job requirement or saying they prefer that over A+ on some of the job postings I have seeing online. One said something like A+ or MCSDT certification, MCSDT preferred. I am studying for the MCTS windows 7 is that not considered comparable?

MCDST was retired sometime ago. I'm not sure what the replacement is, but I'm sure someone else will chime in with its replacement.

Yeah MCDST was retired June 30th 2011. MCSA:Windows 7 is the replacement, that's exams 70-680 & 70-685. You'll find places asking for retired certifications because they don't know any better or their last IT person had that certification even though it's outdated by something newer.

I'm pretty sure the 680 and 685 are near retirement too. It's the MS push to get you to take Windows 8 certifications which..have little use in the corporate world at this time.

I don't think they will retire 680 or 685 for another year at least if not more. 55% of the market is Windows 7 at the moment, only 10% Windows 8. Microsoft are pushy these days but I think they would like you to do Windows 7 AND Windows 8.

i just read it was Jan 31 2014, so not far off. STUPID but doesn't surprise me with MS. They're so eager to get Windows 8 on the desktop I guess they figure they'll pull the plug on Win 7.

No, only the MCITP is being retired Jan 31st 2014, the exams will still stay around but 680 + 685 will give you MCSA:Windows 7 instead.
