Fort test purposes, is there a need to learn the specific ISO/IEC, BS, & NIST standards. i.e IO/IEC 27301:2011 and what it goes with?

You need to know standards that are more-or-less internationally known and used. You needn't go into US laws and regulations, but you should know standards used for IT frameworks and compliance.
