What is TCP/IP?

I've been wondering... if I am asked in an interview to explain what TCP/IP is, how should I go about answering? Do I talk about the TCP/IP protocol suite, the reference model, or TCP over IP? I could ask the interviewer to clarify, but then risk them thinking I'm trying to be clever. How would you answer?

If you want the job I would probably say what YFZblu said though...and you could say the Internet is based on the framework. Or "a working model of network communications through different layers." -

Dieg0M Member Posts: 861I would simply say its a set of communication protocols and explain briefly what TCP and IP is.Follow my CCDE journey at www.routingnull0.com

Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□I think you are overthinking it, but I would say "Tell me when to stop!" then mention everything you know about TCP/IP. Beginning from it's the standard networking protocol to OSI model, layers, ports, TCP & UDP, handshaking. Use simple language wherever possible then get technical until you stop or they tell you to stop! lol
