Compatibility Between 2 different interfaces
I am not sure if this thread should belong here.
Anyway, I work in a data centre.
I have a switch which is using SFP (1G) and another wich is using SFP+ (10G).
Is there any way for these two to be compatible without switching SFP.
They are only designed to use this particular type of SFPs.

powmia Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 322There is no auto-negotiation w/ the 10G. If your switch/optic will let you hard set the interface to 1G, it will work. I've done this with Nexus 5Ks a number of times.

FloOz Member Posts: 1,614 ■■■■□□□□□□If I am not mistaken I believe the SFP+ can operate at both 1G and 10G so as long as you set the proper speed/duplex on both sides it should work.

xXErebuS Member Posts: 230It depends on the SFP model number; some can have the speed set; some cannot. I personally have not seen any fiber SFPs that can have speed set but I know you can with standard copper GLC-Ts. I would say probably not.

Cyanic Member Posts: 289An SFP+ port may be backward compatible with SFP modules, so you can use a 1Gb SFP module in the SFP+ port if this is the case.
