Hi guys, I've failed ICND1 for the second time again today icon_sad.gif. Please could someone help me as I am lost on what to focus on;

The first time I took the exam I got the following:
Score: 650

Describe the operation of data networks 43%
Implement a small switched network 43%
Implement an ip addressing scheme 75%
Implement a small routed network 43%
Explain & Select admin tasks required for wlan 0% ( Missed this question out by mistake!!)
Identify security threats to a network 100%
Implement and verify WAN Links 40%

In my second attempt I got:
Score: 675

Describe the operation of data networks 71% (UP)
Implement a small switched network 50% (UP)
Implement an ip addressing scheme 58% (Down)
Implement a small routed network 36% (Down)
Explain & Select admin tasks required for wlan 100% (Up!!)
Identify security threats to a network 100% (Same)
Implement and verify WAN Links 40% (Same)

Guys any tips on how I can improve? I know for the WAN Links part I need to know about circuit and packet switched networks.

Please could you let me know what topics come (Example Questions) in the following sections;

Implement a small switched network
Implement an ip addressing scheme
Implement a small routed network

Thanks Guys

What are you using to study? Judging by your scores, you need to focus on getting everything up to speed.

CBT Nuggets + Boson Netsim + Dummies Guide

What score would I need across the board to pass. 80%?

I'd suggest you get the Odom books and give them a good read through. You obviously have quite a few gaps in your knowledge.

Gotta agree with networker. Don't focus on "what percentage in this category do I need to pass" because you will always come up short. Focus instead on really learning the material.

Do not post questions from your exam on the forums. It is a violation of the NDA you agreed to with Cisco when you took the exam.

Guys retook the exam today I got 799 failed again icon_sad.gif

Describe the operation of data networks 86% (UP)
Implement a small switched network 64% (UP)
Implement an ip addressing scheme 75% (UP)
Implement a small routed network 71% (UP)
Explain & Select admin tasks required for wlan 100% (Same)
Identify security threats to a network 100% (Same)
Implement and verify WAN Links 40% (Same)

Please can someone advise what topics to look at in Implement and Verify WAN Links as this appears to be the part I am stuck on and I don't know where I am going wrong!!!

On the bright side you haven't given up, and your scores keep increasing.

If you are working hard to understand the material, but still struggling, maybe change the way you learn the material.
Give me all the books on CCNA and two years and I would still fail the exam.
Give me a lab, six months, and a couple of reference material, and I would pass.

Odom books worked like magic for me. Some people complain they are too long-winded. I also have a lab of three switches and three routers.

They have everything I need and on ICND1, it was almost completely relevant. In ICND2 there were dry chapters. On those chapters I focused on the Exam Objective areas on the first read, then used my lab to make sure I understood the commands, and then reread those chapters I thought were dry (as by then, the dry stuff seemed more relevant and easier to absorb).

I set a goal for myself to read 25-50 pages a day from the Odom books.

For Implement and verify WAN links, you should know the vocabulary (CSU/DSU, DCE, DTE, difference in point to point versus frame relay, CIR, difference between ppp and hdlc (and difference between hdlc standard headers and cisco headers).

It sounds like your switching/routing/subnetting are still a little below optimal. Make sure your subnet math is correct and rapid. Make sure you fully understand how a switch processes a frame, based on whether it is broadcast and based on the contents of the switch's mac-address table. Definitely know the three different port security modes.

Take ten minutes and make sure you understand the difference between classful and classless routing completely.

Thanks for the help everyone. I am taking my exam today. Please can someone advise:
Is ATM Cell switched or packet switched? In the dummies guide and CBT nuggets its said to be packet switched, In some of the practice test's I am doing it is cell switched?

Shucks, so now I can't tell you what ATM is now? icon_sad.gif

Congrats, a new CCENT here folks :)
