EIGRP distance command not working... Works in BGP

Someone tell me I'm not losing my mind. I am wanting to set EIGRP AD for default route to something lower based on the routing conditions I am up against. The command "distance <ad> <source addr> <source wildcard> <acl#>" works in BGP but it does not work in EIGRP for an external route. Ciscos documentation does indeed document using this command in EIGRP config but does not state that it only works for internal EIGRP as opposed to external EIGRP. I have gotten my desired results making the change in BGP config but it has trickled my curiosity. Seems like it's a no-go for EX EIGRP to me.
