Network Discovery Methods.. any ideas...?

I have a project I am working on and have to do a network discovery.
I have downloaded Spiceworks to my laptop. Can I use this to do a discovery on other networks (like multiple job sites).
I wanted to know what other apps I can use to do this for me. Free or low cost options are preferred.

Thanks for the ideas. I downloaded them as trials or free items for now. But, I was also looking for a 'spreadsheet type of document that I can store within the company profile to help document the network.
