UC Virtualized on Dell Hardware

I remember a couple of years ago Cisco allowed certain HP and IBM servers that would be supported in virtual UC deployments. Now looking at the Wiki, no vendors are mentioned specifically and 3rd party requirements are VMware HCL, processor models, and satisfying disk and memory requirements.

Does anyone know if Dell hardware is supported now if the server meets the 3rd party specs? At one time nothing Dell was allowed but I can't find that in the UC Wiki anymore.

Yes dell/HP/IBM is supported now for production on VMware. I usually recommend going against these models as they are usually shared with other applications. If you can let your server team know that those servers are only for Voice apps you should be fine. I've already had issues with several customers oversubscribing there VM environment with the voice apps suffering because of it.

Thanks shodown. We're not going to be doing any co-residency with other VMs. All of our servers are Dell and we can get better hardware cheaper than we can with UCS.

I take that back. Dell is not supported at this time, just HP, and IBM. Give me a sec and I will talk with a sales engineer to find out for sure.

I can't find it anywhere in the Wiki that Dell isn't supported. It's ridiculous, I can build a 1U server with the exact same processor model, memory config, and Intel network adapter cards for $4,000 cheaper per server with Dell vs Cisco UCS. The only difference is drive amount for the RAID 5. Cisco wants to sell 8 x 300 GB SAS and with Dell I'd go with 4 x 900 GB SAS.

This project requires four servers so we're talking a good mount of savings.

This is an old document. It may be stamped with Cisco Live but I've seen this before. Also, the TRC section doesn't include the latest server models.
