switch management interface access

in CCNA & CCENT
configure a management interface on a switch to be vlan2. If i connect to this admin interface from a port in VLAN 1 on the same switch, will the request go directly to this mgmt interface, or, will it be routed out then back to the mgmt interface since they're in different VLAN?

    What's the purpose of VLANs? If you ping a PC connected to the same switch in vlan 2, will your ping go straight to the PC?
