New Job!

YAHOOOOOO!
*ahem*
After a very frustrating and underwhelming past year at my current job I am now moving on to better things. I have also now successfully transitioned from mostly network (partial security) to mostly security (partial network).
I'll be able to focus on my security side including vulnerability assessments, continue my firewall skills, dig in deep to IPS/IDS (Sourcefire here I come!), security policies and hopefully eventually dig into some IT forensics stuff.
On top of all that, my coworkers look like they actually care about best practices and learning about what's going on in the industry... imagine that?!
Just thought I'd share my news I'm super stoked about
. What's funny is that I had been looking for awhile and just as this one started to pick up, my current company announced that it was being acquired (you know what that usually means). What a freaking coincidence eh? lol
Anyways, I'm moving from Network Engineer III -> IT Security Specialist . Here's to new and exciting opportunities!

Y'all hiring? I've grown tired of making arguments like "You need to do something to mitigate password guessing attacks because we suffer *** of them per month" and "No you can't use live HIPAA data in your development system".
On a serious note: CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's great to hear! I hope you find fulfillment and... whatever else people work for, money, I guess. -

Hopefully its not just a Michigan thingI try to not let it bother me, but the utter lack of regard for best practices with employer is upsetting.

Always glad to hear there are still happy people in the IT world. So much negativity due to outsourcing, budget constraints, problematic customers or end users, etc. -

You gotta love the timing. This is all too familiar in the contract world.

Fantastic news! Congrats!Yes, I am a criminal. My crime is that of curiosity. My crime is that of judging people by what they say and think, not what they look like. My crime is that of outsmarting you, something that you will never forgive me for. -

Thanks all!! I'm so extremely stoked to say the least. To answer the CISSP question: I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to get this job without it. I think that because of my other certifications I would have been stuck with only network jobs. I firmly believe that my CISSP is what allowed me to get this job. However! with that said... The other reason why is that they needed someone to be their network SME on the infosec team so... Both of them aligned perfectly.
The great thing is that both my CCNP and CISSP were at play here for obtaining this job.
