Overlapping wireless channels
SteveFer
Hi Guys,
Just a quick question regarding the overlapping of channels, I always thaught that the non overlapping channels should be used when configuring Access Points on a wireless network( IE 1,6 ,11) , in the a sample exam I used, there is a question where you have to configure 3 AP's in 2 different buildings, one of them is on channel 2 and you have to select which channel to use for the other 2 from channel 2 ,4 , & 10, the answer is to use 2 for all of them, and the answer says that "all AP's must be configured with the same
encryption
and channel" , can anyone explain where to use the same channel and 1,6,11?
Thanks

Where is the question from? That doesn't make any sense to use the same channel. Encryption yes because the network can blend when users move around and channels you could do 2, 10, 2...assuming the two channels using 2 don't overlap.

It sounds like the answer is wrong. If you allow roaming with a single SSID across several APs, overlapping APs should be on different channels, like this:
If you use the same channel, the APs would cause interference with each other and the client will not be able to connect well, if at all.
