WGU Question...

Does anyone know?

If you already have a fair amount of the certifications that encompass a certain program, will WGU make you retake them? It says you can only wave up to 25% of your degree.

For Instance (The IT Security Bachelors)

Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA®) - Have it.
Cisco Certified Network Associate Security (CCNA® Security) - Will have before I would apply.
Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) - Have it.

CIW Web Design Specialist
CIW JavaScript Specialist
CIW Database Design Specialist
CIW Web Foundations Associate
CompTIA A+ - Have it.
CompTIA Project+
CompTIA Security+ - Have it.
CompTIA Linux+ - Have it.

Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Windows OS Fundamentals
Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Software Development Fundamentals
Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) Database Administration Fundamentals

So that would leave only 8 certifications left.

I nearly forgot, I also have an AAS in IT Network Systems Administration with a fair amount of GE and Focused courses complete. I feel like if I transferred everything I could get the Bachelors done super fast, but I have a feeling they will want their money and not transfer everything.

The banner ads are a bit misleading. I spoke to my enrollment counselor about this last week and she said that while you do have to earn a minimum number of credit units (forget the exact number but it was very low) to earn a degree at WGU, there is no limit to how many certs you can transfer in.

I came into the IT Sec program already having the CCENT,CCNA,A+,Net+, and an AAS in the same degree as you

So not as many as you, but they didn't have a problem with it.

@TechGuy215 - don't worry, WGU will be quite generous with your transfer evaluation. It looks like you already have 2 courses from the MSISA already covered too (C|EH and CCENT), so good luck, man!

This is good news, I am starting in February and I was hoping that there wasn't a cutoff. I'll have my second talk with my enrollment counselor on Wednesday, I'll confirm with him then.

I started on Dec 1 for the BS:IT - ND&M, with no prior college and with the certifications listed to the left I was able to transfer in 56 credits, YMMV. All I have left to complete is general studies, IT fundamentals, and Web programming. My enrollment counselor told me that WGU requires that you take a minimum of 30 credits from them for an undergraduate degree. As previously stated the certifications must have been completed in the past 5 years.
