How to approach a supervisor about a promotion
ande0255
Wondering what the best way is to approach my manager about possibly getting bumped up to the same level (Tier) as my team without coming off as entitled, any suggestions?
All feedback is much appreciated - Thanks!

The biggest thing is the two months. Most places are going to have time requirements before being promoted or moved to a different position. So it's probably an uphill battle.
The HR hurdles aside, two months is pretty aggressive to be asking for a promotion regardless. You don't want to come off as cocky or entitled to the new management. Two months in a position is really no time at all in the grand scheme of things.
I would approach it exactly as you said though. Ask them what you can do to get that promotion. Try to work with your management to set up some goals and a time line. I wouldn't bring up what other people were hired on as. Concentrate on yourself and what you can do to reach your goals.

Thanks for the reply networker, that was exactly what I was looking for. I reeeeally don't want to come off as some entitled a hole to management, but at the same time watching people get hired on at a level above me just really rubs me the wrong way.
I appreciate the feedback!

Networker makes some excellent points. Asking what need to be done for the promotion shows dedication and a willingness to go the extra mile. My current retail job hired my as a part-timer, and I IMMEDIATELY asked what was expected of my to get full time hours. Unfortunately for me, the three managers who backed me up on it have all been transferred to other stores. Now I'm back to square one. So it's study time for a new job!

Make them aware of your goals. keep knocking things out. But also, don't become the guy that they completely rely on. Train your other team members to also become rock stars that way you show leadership qualities that will help you get promoted. They will be less likely to promote you if you're the only rock star on tier II.
Once promoted, someone will have to fill your spot.
