Is there a better method to studying PIO and DMA Modes?

It seems as if there are almost hundereds of different modes and transfer rates to remember, will the A+ pound me on what speed is multi word dma 2, or should I just cram down and pound the modes and transfer rates into my head, and if so is there an easier way to do it?
