Help Desk Manager

I'm trying my hand as a Help Desk Manager of a small service desk of 9 employees. I still do a fair amount of help desk issues. My biggest issue is I feel like no matter how fast I push the team to get things done, it's never going to be fast enough. Has anyone else ever been in this situation? I could ask that some tasks be deferred to another team, that more staff be added, or I could just keep our heads down working as best we can. I'm just wondering if this is normal for the job? My biggest fear is that I'll be perceived as doing a bad job. I haven't had a review yet so I'm not sure what to expect.
