Any help would be appreciated, unless you suggest physical equipment

Personally I use a 3725 about 99% of the time. I don't have any hard data on which is best, but that just felt like the best ratio of interfaces-to-ram-requirements.

I have physical equipment, but the only time I ever use it is when I'm doing something that also involves my switches so would be awkward in gns3.

BTW if you do use GNS3, look at VPCS. I can't believe how much easier it would have made my NA/NP studies having those running in conjunction with gns3.

Oh! Image. Umm, I think I use an adventerprisek9 image to have the biggest feature set (probably overkill though)

    Check gns3vault

They generally point out what model IOS they use - and they've probably tried and tested these to ensure stability.

I think the 3725 or 7200 series are regarded are "most stable"
