Can I use my 2950 for my internet connection?
Deadmaster200
I asked a similar question before. As I have a 100 m fiber connection, I don't want to just the 10m connection on a 2511.
I bought some more equipment, among which was a 2950. Since it switches layer 3, can't I just use that as my starting point from the internet to my internal network?

i don't see why not.. it will need to get dhcp address from service provider on the routed port.. you should be able to point your internal network at the SVI if you have a dhcp server internally u can use it or create a address pool locally

depends on your ISP, if you have as many public ip's as computers then that would work, just set the default router on all of your PC's to your ISP's gateway. If on the other hand you only have one public ISP then you will need a router to do NAT for you. Im pretty sure that the 2950 doesn't have NAT capabilities.

no ...
a 2950's still just a layer 2 switch .... so you'd need a router.
pick up a 3550 or 3750 with the emi image and you can route packets,
run rip, eigrp, ospf and EVEN BGP !!!!
I don't think it's got enought memory to accept a full internet routing table, but it will ibgp or default just fine.
