HI Guys,
I'm just wondering if someone could tell me exactly this title ending next week actually means for the Windows 7 exams, I know that you can combine 2 of the 3 , you get an MCSA, but if I only get one after next week I presume I can still put this down on my resume that I passed the exam, just without the MCTS , so why is having the MCTS title so much better? Both will have a prospective employer that I passed the exam. I ask because I took the 680 today and failed , and am wondering when to reschedule for, I think I should take a bit longer than a week to study as I got a 544, but if the MCTS title is that big an advantage then I will risk it before then

Theegg911 Member Posts: 124It is not worth the risk. The title MCTS was never big in the market. Only MCITP and MCSE are the biggies. the 680 will at least net you the MCPS title which is a generic MS Certified Pro title.Next Goal: Office 365 70-346 (Scheduled for 9/25)

The MCSA will look better than the MCTS anyway. If I gave good advice or was insightful, please add to my reputation!! If you have a LinkedIn account and want a new connection, feel free to add me! If you have any questions, ask!

From this page:Q.What do I gain from passing a Microsoft Certification exam?
A.When you pass your first Microsoft Certification exam, you become a member of the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) community with access to all of the benefits provided through the Microsoft Certification Program and the MCP member site. You can share your transcript with others to prove that you passed that exam and show your progress towards a specific certification. In some cases, such as when you pass an MTA or Specialist exam, that single exam will also earn you the associated certification. -

To be honest, I'm trying to get into server work, and plan on taking the server 410, 411 etc after this, so I wouldnt have the Win 7 MCSA , so would having the MCTS be that much better than having MCP? -
Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□Your new MCSA:Server 2012 will trump the MCTS many times over in recognition. It's better to pass the Windows 7 exam and retain the knowledge than cram, pass the MCTS and forget a ton of it IMO. Good luck with your exams.

ptilsen Member Posts: 2,835 ■■■■■■■■■■From a standpoint of people who actually know what the certifications are, the MCTS Windows 7 will be nearly worthless for someone with an MCSA. However, in my experience, even most technical professionals have an understanding that ranges from incomplete to completely inaccurate. As such, the reality is that having a Windows 7 certification on your resume has the potential to not only help you get past search filters, but human ones.
However, I would advise against certifying in Windows 7 if you already have plans to get Windows 8 and Server 2012 certifications. Just focus on the latest technology and be done with it. Windows 7 or an MCTS title really won't make a big difference, even in the short run.
