Question on viability of a couple different voice routers I found

I'll keep this short and sweet, was looking for a reasonable voice router for labbing CME, and found the two following routers on Ebay:

Cisco 2821 512D 512F CME 8 6 iOS 15 1 CCP 2 7 CCNA CCNP CCIE Voice Lab 2811 CD 0746320911908 | eBay - 2811 with 512D/512F memory, no pre-installed modules or cards (no PVDM, VWIC,), 2 GB Ethernet ports (don't think these matter for lab purposes)


Cisco 2801 384D 512F CME 8 6 iOS 15 1 CCP 2 7 VWIC 1MFT T1 PVDM CCNA Voice 2811 | eBay - 2801 with 384D/512F, includes PVDM2-8 Module and VWIC-1MFT-T1 Card, 2 FastEthernet ports

Both routers include CME 8.6, CCP 2.7, and loaded with IOS image 'c2801-adventerprisek9-mz.151-4.M7.bin'

I am interested in the 2801 specifically, as it contains a VWIC and PVDM already, but not sure if the mentioned types of module / card are of any use for CCNA and CCNP level voice. Also the CCP already being loaded would be awesome for getting into my CCNA Sec studies.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

Trying to search for what is best, what will work, etc is making my head spin of my shoulders - any input would be greatly appreciated!

pretty decent on the 2801. You will need to buy another router to hook it up to a simulated PSTN switch. or you could just use a IP SIP trunk to do your PSTN on.

Yes I have a 2611xm running CME 4.x, as well as a 2621xm setup with a an 8A/S-module running as a frame switch, so I was thinking those two devices would make a nice little lab - Plus the loaded CCP will be glorious to hit the ground running for CCNA Sec.

Just wanted to make sure the router wasn't a gold plated turd, as I'm not overly familiar with all the VoIP components yet - Thanks for the response as always shodown!

Yeah just grabbed the last 2801 available, coincidentally there was a purchase or two within an hour of me posting this so I made sure to grab one while still available

Thinking my setup for CME labbing will be 'PC - R1 - FRS - R2 - PC' and just load IP Comm on both pc's, and figure out how to integrate my CUCM VM in there a bit down the road.

Thanks again for the quick response shodown! I might not have snagged one in time without a second opinion, even though there's a 99% chance it will be republished with 2-3 more available within a few hours.

sorry...i was looking all over ebay and found that you were doing the same thing. Expexting the 2801 to arrive tomorrow. Can't wait to fill another U on my rack!

Mine gets here tomorrow too, I am excited to start labbing the CME stuff for my upcoming exam!
