Computer requirements for home lab

I'm piecing my CCNA/CCNA security lab together right now, and am wondering what computer requirements I'm going to need to run things in the lab sufficiently. I'm assuming I'm going to have to create a bunch of VM's and I don't think my frankensteined dell Dimension E510 is going to do it... I have a Dell E6500 laptop but that's kinda old as well... I'm pondering on buying a new MBP as I've always been a mac guy, just not sure if i should build a real strong desktop first and leave it at home and just remote in with the E6500... Would be very interested in some spec advisement on what I should be running at home, and also interested in what your setup at home is. Thanks in advance.
