Ive been using something called Spotmau Power Suite where I turn the vm off, make the increase in the vm settings. Power on to this power suite iso and extend the partition. Now my coworker has done this process and completely screwed the disk. I just did it with no problems but still a little nervous. Wondering what you guys do/use.

In Server 2008 and later you can easily use diskpart or disk management to extend the partition. -
Asif Dasl Member Posts: 2,116 ■■■■■■■■□□If it's Server 2008 or 2012 then just turn it off and extend the size and boot it again and go into Computer Management and Disk Management. Right click the volume and click on Extend Volume and go through the wizard to extend the size.
If you have Server 2003 or Linux then use GParted.. -

You don't need to power off to change the size of the volume on 2008\2012, can be done hot (done it a couple of times recently without issue). My Blog - http://www.everything-virtual.com

SimonD. Member Posts: 111@SimonD. - Do you need Datacenter to extend the hard drive or does it work with Standard too?
I just tried it on Datacenter and it worked there - cool..
Standard across the board for us atm and it works fine, will work across all editions.
The only reason you would need to power off a VM to increase the drive is if there are any snapshots present on the VM.My Blog - http://www.everything-virtual.com
