Finding work has been tough so when I was offered an opportunity to do some work for an IT services company as a contractor I decided to give it a try. If anything I can beak the ice and get out there and see some things I would not see.
i need to know how to go about this. Surely I can rely on some of your experiences in contract work.
i need to so things like log mileage on my vehicle, log the work and time I was on a site. Looking to keep it simple. I need a template or something that produces a file I can send to the company to bill for workable hours and what I did while working.
Any tips for working as a contractor and documenting you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Quickbooks when you have multiple clients and large transactions.
I usually right out a SOW of the work to be performed, and how many hours it it will take, and expectations set. It also has a charge code which is something like the customer abbreviation with a code. My invoice from there is pretty simple. Its just that code with the amount of hours performed and the total amount charged.
Thats a basic to get you started. I just took a lot of templates i saw on line and modified them for my use. If you really decide to get into this hard core and don't wanna spend the money on the programs above make sure you become an expert at excel or google apps.Currently Reading

Expensify for expenses.
Free version of freshbooks for invoicing - think it lets you have three clients, which should be enough if you are contracting for one company. Easy to track time and expenses, and email an invoice. Also has mobile app as well.
