Hey guys,
This is my first post on here but I have been following for a short time and learning from the vast knowledge and experience being shared on the board. I am new to the InfoSec field and am currently on pace to get my masters in the Fall of 15'. I didn't have any IT experience with my undergrad so I am about a year and a half into soaking up knowledge. Now my question comes from an internship I applied for with vulnerability research. I talked with project lead and it went well, however I have another 60-90 minute interview next week and they asked if I had a code sample. I am not a programmer by any means and was wondering how you all would suggest I go about this. The job description is below and to me I didn't get that I'd be doing deep coding, and my conversation with research lead yielded no programming language questions. What do you guys think?
Here is the job description:
The successful candidate will be a Junior or Senior in a Computer Science related program, have an eye for detail, a desire to learn quickly, and a strong technical background. Responsibilities will include updating documentation, setting up test systems, researching security vulnerabilities, writing/testing security content and generally assisting software engineers as needed.
Past successful interns have been current college undergraduates at local universities that are looking for real-world experience for 1-2 years. Our ideal candidate would follow this pattern.
Specific Responsibilities:
Setting up virtual environments for vulnerability research and testing
Researching security vulnerabilities
Designing and creating internal tools used for tracking, research, and analysis
Installing and configuring nCircle's commercial security software products and appliances
Required Skills and Experience
Currently enrolled (or recently graduated) in college program, preferably in computer sciences
Impeccable written English
Enthusiastic attention to detail
Strong proficiency with databases and webservers
Takes responsibility for quality and timeliness of work
Enjoys reading and learning
Ability to be a team player in a fast-paced environment
Highly Desired Skills:
Experience, involvement, or strong interest in computer security
System administration skills (Windows, Unix/Linux)
Solid Understanding of Networking and the TCP/IP Stack
SQL and Database skills
