Difference between Read and List Folder Contents permission
w^rl0rd
Can anyone explain the difference between Read and List Folder Contents folder permission?
The MCSE Training Kit says:
Read - See files and subfolders in the folder and view folder ownership, permissions, and attributes (such as Read-Only, Hidden, Archive, and System).
List Folder Contents - See the names of files and subfolders in the folder.
What is the difference between seeing files and subfolders and seeing the names of files and subfolders?

With Read permissions you can actually read the contents of the files, instead of just being able to 'see' the files.

Exactly. Imagine opening a folder full of word documents. Then double clicking to try and open it. If you get access denied you probably don't have read permission but you have list folder contents persmission. But if you can open it, but not save any changes, then you have read permission.
