Igrp And Eigrp And Router-id Option
For OSPF and BGP we configure "router-id". One of use this command for OSPF is selecting DR and BDR.
Why do we need to configure this for EIGRP or IGRP ?
Why do we need to configure this for EIGRP or IGRP ?

darkuser Member Posts: 620 ■■■□□□□□□□mostly for stability and so you always know the source of routing updates.
you can create a loopback and set the router-id to be the loopback.
this frees it from being tied to the performance of a physical interface.
then if you have instability in an interface you won't have routing problems.
this also applies for other routing protcols.
