Rebooting as a solution

I gotta say, I've used rebooting as a solution throughout my career a few times but this is ridiculous. A system the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms uses to get electronic forms has been experiencing issues for at least 6 months. Their solution:
In an attempt to improve the performance of eForms we are restarting the eForms system everyday at the following times (Eastern time). During each restart eForms will be unavailable for 1 hour.

Restart times:

4:00 AM
9:00 AM
NOON
4:00 PM
11:00 PM

Performance improvement through reboots. Ain't that lovely?

Rebooting is never a solution. It is a workaround. Sometimes, the workaround is more acceptable than the real solution, but too often it is due to people who are too busy, too incompetent, or too lazy to troubleshoot.

Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands...
