Cat 5/6 Ethernet cabling
jmorris92
Hi guys, i'm wanting to practice making my own ethernet cables with a crimping tool I just bought and some RJ45 connectors for £3.95 on Ebay (steal!). What's the difference between Cat5 and Cat6 cabling apart from performance, are they different in how you make them at all?
Thanks

Cat5 / Cat6 both use the same color scheme. Just make sure you are making them the same on both ends.

CAT6 is usually thicker and harder to bend, proper CAT6 cable will not fit into a CAT5 connector properly and as a result the terminal gaps on a CAT6 connector are usually wider.

I thought both used RJ-45 connectors?
