Homemade ethernet terminators

I am just working through Todd Lammle's, third edition page 240, static routing. I have no hosts connected on the ethernet ports. Will it work if I cross over the right wires within a cable and plug them in the holes or will I break something. I think along the lines of bouncing the signal back into the port by making a loop that returns into the same terminal.

I also suspect there is a very easy way, but if you study on your own, if you don't know - you don't.

Just like to point two things out:

-if by any chance you have a switch, use it to terminate the links. I wouldn't play with my interfaces even if there's a way.
-3rd edition is a bit old for this version of the exam. get the 5th edition, which is the latest.

im not super clear on what you are trying to do, but try using the command [/b]no keepalive[/b] on your ethernet interfaces. that eliminates the need to terminate the interfaces.
