Re: How much are you paying to maintain your certification status?
I haven't held enough certs that require maintenance for this to be an issue yet. If I do keep the CompTIA ones, I'll probably just be maintaining CASP. The Linux+ and Storage+ won't expire. Probably between the Cisco, MS, VMware and other certs, I'll have more than enough credits. LPIC does expire at 5 years. Probably if… -
Re: Goal is to be in InfoSec, not sure what path of Certs to seek
Certs aren't everything, but when people here ask me what certification path to aim for in terms of security or general flow of learning all things security via certs, I recommend CompTIA Network+ (since you need a basic network foundation for many infosec principles) CompTIA Security+ (base starting point) or SANS SEC301:… -

Passed exam
Hi All, First of all let me thank you to all who posted their experience and strategies to get through this exam. I passed on my first attempt I had the benefit of passing the CASP exam in December which was a great help also. My learning strategy was always a little bit different, but it might help one or the other of you… -
Re: Is one certification okay or is it pointless?
Ask yourself this question, is the IT/Infosec industry growing rapidly, or moving along like a snail? Yes, you can get one certification, and it can keep you stable for a while, however at a certain point you will hit a plateau. Getting certifications is like a stepping stone process. Once you figure out what area of IT… -
Passed CSA + Today
Passed this morning barely by several questions. Lets just say that my study habits are not the greatest and I procrastinated toward almost losing my NW+ and Sec+ that would have expired tomorrow. I'm around 50 y/o and I work on the Infrastructure and Server side of things for a living. I started off with A+ in 1999 and… -
Any Roadmap for a network security engineer to migrate skills to the cloud
Background:Im a computer science grad but it took me 7 years to finally find a focus on my course (I desperately wanted to be a musician) currently 31 and obviously have too little time not to have my map/course charted. After making up my mind to pursue this career, I've decided to rise fast also. I'm currently a CCNA..… -
Re: Norwich Online BS in Cyber Security... Thoughts?
Hello. I am a long time lurker of this forum and have finally decided to give a little back (even if it's on a 6 month old thread. haha) I am currently enrolled in Norwich's BS in Cyber Security. I am finishing my 3rd class in my second semester. I would like to contribute my thoughts as this degree is relatively new and… -
Re: Resume critique request
The first question that pops into my head is why have you been doing help desk for so long? You are looking at nearly 10 years as a help desk person. Some people (I don't know you, so this may not be you) are lazy and are happy doing help desk and collecting a paycheck. If I were you, I would try to get a job in a place… -
Re: Help ! ... armed forces VS college in order to acquire a federal IT job?
I'm currently in the military and Marine Corps. The one thing I'd do is touch base with the services and found out what is taught in the service's IT school. You want to go to the one that is going to provide the best training or ROI. Your mileage will VARY due to the military unit (being in the right time and place), so…
