Best resources for CCNA?
I was preparing to pass the exam of Comptia N + but I have seen that in my country (Spain) this certificate does not usually ask for it and that is more recognized the CCNA apart from that according to I understand they have raised a lot the level and that the questions are much more Complex, so few people approve.I am 30… -
A few tweaks to the site
Hey there, everyone! I just wanted to give you a heads up about a few changes I've been working on in the background. I've been adding a couple subcategories underneath our Cybersecurity category, since that was starting to become a catch-all for much of our non-cert-related discussion. Now, if you're looking for… -
Re: If You Could Change Anything About TechExams, What Would You Change?
Clean-up old stickies. If something was stickied 6+ years ago and hasn't been used in 3, get rid of it. This goes double for stickies about specific exams that have been retired. I would suggest that there should never be a sticky about a specific exam version, you know it's just a matter of time before it's retired.… -
Re: Home Lab for IPS/IDS, SNORT, PFSENSE etc or a commercial product?
I just bought an old HP proliant from Ebay (savemyserver.com has some great deals) and set up an small active directory environment on it. Once the domain was up and running, I added in a security onion server and throw a few sensors in the network for monitoring. Now I run through red teaming type scenarios using Kali… -
Re: Have you seen anybody still run Windows 3.1/95?
2/5 of the clients that I visit have at least one windows NT.4 system in use. Typically these are check imaging servers, oooooooold ATMs, and legacy banking processor servers. These are the cream of the crop of penetration testing targets because the software has been end of life for so long that they don't even patch it… -
Re: CEH - Passed on 9/21/2016 - Preperation and Reflections
The former response was to kalik I am pursuing nothing on the certifications front - at least nothing that I know of. I don't have normal work in sec/infosec. I teach in a couple other fields that have had, from time to time, cross-over. I mentioned above the books I was thinking of reading and the free Metasploit training… -
Re: Getting access to SANS GIAC official book/courseware
I can't help you in this regard, unfortunately. You are unluckily stuck in an area with some risk involved. As a side note and totally unrelated to you asadzz, this does raise an interesting question. I've been to quite a few conferences in my day, many infosec-related. To be totally honest I have stereotyped many people… -
Re: From Helpdesk and A+ to six figures and VP, my personal path, plus some advice (long)
Congrats and welcome to my world (except I'm not a VP!). If you ever need any advice/tips/tricks with audit assessments/compliance/pentesting give me a PM. I like to learn from others and also share what I've learned. Why start at ground zero on some of this stuff when someone can help you start higher? CISM or Masters?… -
Re: OSCP and Other Certifications
Welcome Harcos90, I do Web Development also as my day job and eventually plan on transitioning toward Security. Even if the OSCP is not on the list (yet), it holds a lot of respect. The cost of PWK Training is a lot cheaper than the amount of money you're going to pay training and attempting the Tier 1 Certifications… -
Re: Certifications for a path in IT Security
It's rare for someone to start an IT career in security since it's really an advanced specialization of IT. Certs don't "get you there" either. Look at a cert as having an access card that gets you past the minimum-wage security guard in the lobby of the high-rise where you want to work. The cert helps you get past the…
