Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
It's worth noting too that the PMP, CAPM from PMI also uses the Modified Angoff method as cited in this book (only reliable source I could find) Amazon.com: 0324786921: Books If Angoff wasn't a good model for grading, it wouldn't be used, I don't think...if 50% is considered a "B" to prove competence by SMEs in that… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
If you're reading the new Project+ book by that gal in Colorado, I would definitely vouch for the quality of its contents. I read her PMP book to study for my Project+ exam, and it was hands down the best project management exam text I'd ever touched (and better than some other non-exam books I'd gotten my hands on as… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
I received 74 transfer credits (27 from community college classes, and 47 from IT certifications). It all depends on your certs and the program, however. I'm in the BS IT: Network Administration, mostly because that lined up well for transferring my Microsoft MCSE and PMI: PMP certifications. Overall I was quite pleased… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
You can read more about my experience with this cert here: http://www.techexams.net/forums/project/60926-erpadmin-now-project-certified-lessons-learned.html (I didn't want to double post...but I do want to continue documenting my experiences at WGU here...because if not for WGU, I would have never found the need to get… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
Thanks a lot TL. Currently working on task 1 for supply chain. This is taking quite a bit of effort :) I talk to my mentor on Tuesday I want him to add Risk Management since I am currently reviewing the material for the RMP (Risk Management Professional) Aligned with the PMP but more about risk and how risk effects… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
No disruption at all! Chime right in. I wasn't trying to be argumentative with Erp. I just felt it important to note that different people are going to have different challenges with these courses, as you did. I used a nicely-written PMP book (used alongside uCertify) to pass the Project+. Lucked out and got the book… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
Drop 'em off at a local Goodwill. Maybe the local library can sell them through their Friends of the Library store. They'd be fine for boosting your monitor on your desk at work. :) Seriously, I'm lucky in that I know a few people into web design, so I have homes for some of the CIW books. Gave the Project+ book to someone… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
ERP you will cover a lot of that in the PMP material as well. My first management class covered Herzberg theory, Maslow Hierarchy, Porters five forces, and Porters three generic strategies (Overall cost of leadership, Differentiation, and Focus) I also remember Value Chain Analysis and Run-Grow-Transform Framework. Run=… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
I just started the Masters in Information Technology Management on May 1st and have a similar background. I have been in IT 26 years, mostly in Networking, recently project management side. I did get my PMP certification so I didn't need the Project Management class. That said, one month in, I'm on my 6th class of 10. If… -
Re: Student Experiences at Western Governors University (WGU)
Yep, specialization seems to be a thing of the past. The key now is to have a good comprehension of many topics and the ability to dive in and learn specifics for your projects as needed. I know that many will disagree, but there are so many areas where this is the case: small IT shops where they cannot afford several…
