TE slow for anyone else?

--chris----chris-- Member Posts: 1,518 ■■■■■□□□□□
Since Monday I had had TE time out when clicking around the forums, seems to be about 30% of the time. Is this on my end or are others seeing this?

I've been seeing this as well. Other sites would be fine, but the lag on this one has been noticeable.

Interesting. I wasn't seeing this problem until about 10 mins ago. The only difference is that I moved from my desktop which I use Mozilla as browser on Linux to my laptop which I use Chrome on Windows 8.1. The slowness seems to only happen on Chrome. Just a thought...

    Thanks for the PM Paul.

I haven't noticed any major performance issues with the server today or this week while I keep a close eye on it. Being that it seems it affects some and not others, it's however possible there are/were some pops of our CDN were busier than usual (images and large scripts are loaded from those), you can tell if that's the case if it times out on cdn/images.techexams.net instead but does load the www.

I just tried some performance and response tests from several locations and it looks ok, as usual that is. I will take a closer look tomorrow early, but in any case, if it's actually timing out rather than an occasional delay please email me tracert (to www. and cdn. ) output (webmaster at techexams.net).

I have been experiencing lots of issues with the site in the last 2 days.

Every 2nd click causes the page to not respond.

Admin: I have done a wireshark capture during which I experienced a drop. Looks like my machine is doing a whole heap of TCP re-transmissions.

I am using Chrome with Windows 8.1

Tried with Firefox, had no issues.

EDIT: I did more testing. Firefox performs the same as Chrome.

    Cheers

Not quite a University and in late 30's a bit old to still be studying at one. I work at a partly Publicly funded scientific research institute (see my linked in profile for more info), but we do have Academic status. Hence the reason we run on Janet which is what I assume gave it away. :)

Yeah I am experiencing time outs.

@N2IT: if you are experiencing time outs atm please send me tracert output (email or pm).

Thanks for the feedback and PMs so far. Shortly after my previous post our host posted they had network issues ( https://twitter.com/softlayernotify ) but I just heard that shouldn't have affected our server... It's a little hard to track down because it seems to work most of the time and not affect everyone including myself. I suspect there is a network problem (being that our server is running smoothly) and hope to find and solve it today. Currently have someone at my host investigating as well and I hope to have good news soon.

I wish... I got this of people that work/worked on JANET- I've only studied JANET as a part of real world network provisioning / QoS at University. I've got some more diagrams but i'm sure they would be traceable to source..

Janet is cool, not just are they a great ISP, dealing with some of the biggest scientific data in the world. But they have a conference each year with IT engineers from all of the top university's and research institutes around the world. We all sit around tell each other how we use the network and the kind of things we are getting up to and how we would like to see Janet moving forward.

so unlike in the Private sector where people try hide what there doing from each other and the ISP is jsut a service provider, we get to sit down for dinner with them each year and have a pint or two.

Hey thanks for posting guys. We're still working on the issues but made some progress and changes that should make things go a little smoother. It may get worse again a couple of times before we really solve the problems permanently.
