Accepted to WGU

ShdwmageShdwmage Member Posts: 374
Well I was accepted into the WGU BS-IT with software emphasis program.

I'm a little sad that only 24 CU transferred in though. Oh well, a huge chunk of those 24 CU were gen-ed courses.

I start August 1.

How was the assessment? Also congrats!

I didn't think it was too difficult. I just had to dust off some math skills I hadn't used in awhile.

That's what I've been hearing. I personally haven't touched any books in 10years and i've been brushing up on some math skills. Just not sure when enough is enough, you know?

Its all college algebra stuff I think. Maybe a little geometry? I can't remember. My head hurt because I did it all from memory.

I haven't really taken a math class in about 10 years (high school). I did not study when taking the entrance assessments. Found it to be rather easy. I have always been good with math though...
  • ShdwmageShdwmage Member Posts: 374
Yes, it was pretty easy for me too. I just hadn't seen some of the stuff in a long time.

I received some awesome news from my boss, they won't pay for my mileage, but they will pay me for the day when I go up to do the assessment.

How long have you been going? I'm really hoping to be able to knock a bunch of the easier courses out quickly.

Paid for the time missed at work? Thats a pretty sweet deal. My company has to work it into budgeting and it all has to be hashed out before you start going. And they only cover up to $400 or $800 of the fees per year depending on the circumstances. Dont pay for work missed..

My job isn't helping with my tuition, but I have pel grants that cover it all. Having 3 kids will do that for you.

I am looking at getting done in 5 semesters, maybe 6. I am going to see if I can push some of the classes up however. I know work wants me to get Security +, and 70-410. I have a really old A + and Net + cert from 2001, but the school wouldn't accept them. I should be able to ace those fairly easily, with a little help from Professor Messer.

Up until I get into Javascript/Java/Perl I shouldn't have much issue with the web design information. I have been building webpages for almost a decade now. I also have done a lot of database design.

I plan on trying to do 18-20 CUs a semester. More if I can squeeze them in. Having time to study at work, and working for a company that wants to help me advance in life is a great thing. Plus with those 3 kids I mentioned earlier its not like I get out a lot at night.

I am very excited to get rolling on this. I wish I could get going right now.

I just started my 2nd 6 month term as of 7/1/14. I finished my courses for the first term in the middle of May and will admit I took it easy getting that done. I should have moved a few more classes up and finished those CU's sooner, but I needed a break. This term is a different story and I'm doing everything I can to keep the hammer down and keep things moving. :D

WGU is all online. You have the option of taking certs/finals at a personal location proctored via webcam (this tends to be a little glitchy as any extraneous noise or movement pretty much results in the exam being suspended while the proctor decides if you were cheating or not) or going in to a Pearson or other testing center. If it's a performance based exam (like write a paper or whatever), you submit that to TaskStream and it's evaluated there.

Is that the phone orientation or the webinar one? The phone one took me only like 25 minutes and I never did the other one and no one said anything.

Few hours, it's pretty basic. You can speed it up by reading the video transcripts instead of sitting through the slow-talking videos.

Orientation took me a couple of hours. I tried to speed through the videos by just reading the transcript. It's all pretty basic and mind numbing. Tip: If you're ambitious enough, once you have your course listed in the student portal you should have access to most of the resources. You can essentially get about 2-3 weeks to work before your actual start date. Good Luck and stay motivated!

I finished orientation and I've been working on some pre-assessment. I bombed the finite mathematics with a 58%, but I toasted the IT fundamentals 1 with a 90%. I'm a bit disappointed I've forgot so much math over the years. Oh well.

If you are already accepted to the school you can get in and do pre-assessments for all of your courses. It will help you accelerate and get out of dragging your feet through classes you already know.

Oh and Happy first day of class to all of the others on here that are starting today.

I am changing my major to Network Administration. I decide I didn't want to deal with the software degree, and the network administration lines up with what I am looking to do.

I also passed my first final today for Reasoning and Problem solving with an 82%. I studied for 2 nights on the areas I did the worst in and crammed before the test.

    Next Up IT fundamentals 1 & 2, possibly 3.

The yellow hurts my eyes. I can't actually read it! lol.

I am trying to get authorization to take my exam for IT Fundamentals 1 and my mentor is being a pain in the rear. Then I'll be taking the A+ exams concurrently.

I can't officially switch my majors until the start of my next semester, but thankfully there are a lot of courses that over-lap so I will accelerate those into this term.

It's not really a joke if you know nothing about HTML(5). It was a pain in the ass in that regard. Learning something I had no use for made the topic uninteresting and so I kept blowing off studying it lol. But it is a joke in that you really don't need to do anything but read the material if you have a good memory. I did absolutely zero practical application for it. I just took the pretest study crap like 25 times or so. Passed the exam the first time taking it in like 24 minutes.

man clc1 was dry and i read zero pages but i passed the class with 70%..lol pass is a pass right?
