MCSE is now the highest Microsoft certification available now that the MCM was retired.

They cancelled the certification program along with the MCSM and MCA because they weren't profitable enough for Microsoft. The entire time they were available, only a couple hundred people ever achieved the certifications.

Oh wow, that's crazy.

It was about a $50k investment so most of the people who took the courses worked for Microsoft. They only lifted the course requirement a few months before they canceled the program. Microsoft never made it a partner requirement like Cisco does for the CCIE so there was no market for the certification and no reason to invest that kind of money.
