clarson Member Posts: 903 ■■■■□□□□□□I say the preference would be for a "ts" model instead of a "ps" model as a ts model can run version 15 of the ios. But, I'd still say the 3560 ps is better than a 3550.

prices are a bit more for the TS
if I were to buy 3550.. Would that be enough to do my CCNP ? -
theodoxa Member Posts: 1,340 ■■■■□□□□□□These will cover everything through CCNP. Normally, I would go with the 3560-24TS as they will cover CCIE also, but that price is very good.R&S: CCENT → CCNA → CCNP → CCIE [ ]

Short answer...NO. The 3550 will not do IPv6, VTPv3, or Private VLANs. Any 3560 or 3750 will suffice for CCNP.R&S: CCENT → CCNA → CCNP → CCIE [ ]

I will stick to looking for 3560-TS
Wonder why people on CBT and stuff say a 3550 is ok then
What about 2960 ? Go for the TS to? -
shortstop20 Member Posts: 161 ■■■□□□□□□□3550 does MOST things on CCNP and they're cheap which is why they are often recommended.
Ideally, a 3560 is better.CCNA Security - 6/11/2018

As ^^^ said, it will do a good portion of the stuff, but not everything and while they have come down substantially in price, the 3560 used to be a lot more expensive, which is why I started with 3550s before switching to 3560s. I could get 3550s at the time for under $50, but a 3560 would have cost me $200 or more.
2013: $200
2014: $150
2015: $50-100
This is the same reason you will still see a lot of folks recommending the 2600XM series of router. Up until 2014, the newer routers were cost prohibitive.R&S: CCENT → CCNA → CCNP → CCIE [ ]
