Where do you keep your certifications?

brfitzpbrfitzp Member Posts: 41 ■■□□□□□□□□
So like many people here, i've racked up quite a few certifications and plan to keep studying and earn some higher level ones in the future. I currently have them all in a folder in a drawer alone with my score reports.

I was considering getting a nice book with clear sleeve to put them in but i'm not sure which would be best.

What does everyone else do with their certs?

Most are in a folder where we file stuff. The important ones that took a lot to pass (MCSA and VCP) are framed in my office along with my BS degree.

There's been similar threads in the past. Currently I have most of mine, similar to you, collected up in an old bag. I have a couple framed, sitting on the back of a shelf.

From the last threads I read, it varies from people who throw them out (since they are verifiable online anyway) through to people who frame them all and keep them in a trophy room to provide inspiration, and people who frame them and keep them on the wall at their workplace.

In this part of the world it isn't unusual for other professionals to put degrees and professional associations on their office walls, but is unusual in the IT world. I think part of this is that there has historically been a lot of under/un-qualified IT people who wouldn't have much to put on their walls. Some of these people are still in senior positions so might find it threatening maybe, or maybe IT just hasn't had a chance to develop its professional culture and traditions.

    But to each their own.

I have a hanging binder with protective sheets that I keep them in along with other documents. I also have a pdf copy on my computer for when I need to email or print out, should the need arise.

I bought a silver aluminum briefcase to store important documents, so I ended up putting my certs there too.

My degree, CISSP and CCSP are framed in my study room. Thinking of getting a copy to work also. Anyone tried copying them? Do they come out nice?

Folder in a box of files in my home office. I'm not really much of the framing / hanging up awards type.

Mine are all in a binder.... somewhere, except for the few recent ones I got through WGU, which are lying in a pile of other papers on my server box, until I get around to finding said binder.

Mine are all in a binder in the closet of my home office, the GIAC I got came on a nice plaque, that's in the closet behind some stuff. I stopped hanging them years ago.

Mine are in frames hanging on my wall at home. I plan to frame my higher level certs when I get them and put them up at the office and at home.

I don't have any paper copies of them. There are some not worth keeping (*cough*CIW*cough*), but I don't see a reason to keep them right now. Maybe with a high-level cert, but I usually just toss them since they can be verified online.

In a dark drawer in my parent's house, something like 500 miles away.

At one point in time I carried my A+ cert card with me min my wallet. But after a month of that, I realized there was absolutely no point haha

This got me thinking...regular paper is pretty rough on the skin, so what if there was a printer that could print on paper towels(i thought toilet paper was a stretch.) I didn't find a printer, but then I came across custom printed paper towels. After finding that, I thought surely someone must have custom printed toilet paper and I found:

    Custom Printed Toilet Paper Rolls

I'm not sure if they'll accept certificates for printing due to copyright/trademark issues. It would be awesome if they did. What better to show your distaste for your certificates. I have a University diploma I might have to look into seeing if they will custom print or not. I might have to pick up some of their political custom printed toilet paper.

Beautiful idea. Although $12 per roll + setup fees is too thick for my blood.

Old or irrelevant ones are in a box of other documents. My highly relevant ones to my job are framed hanging in my office, because that's why the certificates exist.

I've been thinking about it but no one really cares and I'm not the show off what I got type. I do need to kinda bring life to the office, I haven't done anything to it (posters, minions or other fun stuff....) for almost two years.
