Remedymp Member Posts: 834 ■■■■□□□□□□I don't agree, I'm solid gen X and worked hard for everything I've gotten. But, I know that for many companies if you know ahead of time their budget is to 80K and you want 110K, it's not worth even putting in an app, and most places aren't very forthcoming on their salary ranges out of the gate.
As for knowing your value, your value is whatever someone else is willing to pay. If you think you make 100K now, but someone else has a budget to 130K, they might offer you 110K, and some people would be fine with that because it's a reasonable upgrade, but you might be 20K a year under all your coworkers.
Good point. -

blargoe Member Posts: 4,174 ■■■■■■■■■□So this is basically the employment version of "no-haggle pricing", except the shrewd candidate will still haggle if he knows the market will bear it.
I wonder if this rule applies to rates paid to offshore workers. If not, some companies may wind up with more low-balled offshore workers and less women and minorities from Massachusetts.IT guy since 12/00
Recent: 11/2019 - RHCSA (RHEL 7); 2/2019 - Updated VCP to 6.5 (just a few days before VMware discontinued the re-cert policy...)
Working on: RHCE/Ansible
Future: Probably continued Red Hat Immersion, Possibly VCAP Design, or maybe a completely different path. Depends on job demands... -

But the reason behind this new law crazy.
There is no wage gap.
Averaging the combined income of all males in any job and comparing that to the combined income of all females in any job does not mean females are paid less.
Same for minorities.
If you compare men and women in the same career field with the same education/experience levels, females actually average higher.
Same for minorities.
Any females or minorities here get paid less than the white male next to you because you're not?
Any business owners here exclusively hire females and minorities so you can pay them less?
Creating a law to on this basis is ridiculous and will not change anything. -
