I'd go for the GSE. However that cert list is still on top of me, taking a big **** right on my head. Diarrhea to make it worse. -

I would say that my current job is near perfect. I could use more money but it is the best work environment since the beginning of my career 10 yrs ago.
I have two different ideas on what would be great.....
1) work from home type job that is 3 days per week.
2) Or a CIO/CISO/CSO job where I get paid $$$$ and only do it for 3 yrs and then retire.
Ultimately whatever gets me to say this. -

The reason I created this thread is I was offered my dream job. Its about 25% less than what I make now, however it is in an area that is 35% cheaper. The job offers unlimited upward mobility, and a very unique opportunity to do a very technical job. Lots of training as well. -

Best of luck on the new position. I've yet to get into a company that is willing to provide lots of training... Which isn't a huge deal since training isn't usually overly expensive and am fine paying for it. Just never feels like a company really cares about people if they aren't willing to invest in them learning more. -
globalenjoi Member Posts: 104 ■■■□□□□□□□I think my realistic dream job would be a foreign service position with the State Department. Ever since I sat down with a Diplomat-in-Residence at my school, I've been convinced that's what I want to do. Traveling every few years, immersion in other cultures, seeing more of the world, learning languages. I've been primarily focused on an FSO position, but now that I'm in information security, I'm hopeful that I can eventually reach a specialist position for similar experiences.
As far as less-realistic dream jobs? Probably Youtube/Twitch star, where I get to play video games yet make insane amounts of money. "You'll never get rich playing video games." It'd feel good to shut down anyone that has ever said that! -

I've been enjoying reading this thread and simply the concept of it. For me - it evoked some thoughts about my own career and aspirations.
My own dream job changes over time - meaning - I think that I strive and aim for something that I hope is attainable - and when I get there - it's time for another dream job. I'm not sure if my approach is necessarily a good one. I was thinking as I followed this threat - would it be better if I aimed really high and then work towards it - incessantly. But at the same time - because life priorities change - I wonder if it's better to have smaller tangible goals - like @100K goal of buying a Porche And as you get there - re-adjust your dream/goal for the perfect job.
So - at one time - I really wanted to be a Software Architect, then Software Engineering manager, then Infrastructure manager, InfoSec Manager, CISO, CTO, etc... But in the back of my mind - if I am truthful with myself - I think my dream job is to have my own technology company - one that is NOT venture-back - and one where I can grow it based solely on profit. -

Snow.bros Member Posts: 832 ■■■■□□□□□□Anything in IT that is non customer facing, non corporate or enterprise. Basically I want to deal with and manage technology alone, something like a NOC or a SOC position where it's just engineering no customers in my site or non stop ringing phone. Anything contributing to doing good not just working hard for some ass hole who wants me help him/her with some technical stuff in a rudely manner and I have to help him/her because I still want to keep my job or just because he\she is good paying customer, figure it would be a nice day if I used my skills for doing something that contributes to doing good and it will make me feel better when I ask myself "what have I done today?".
Any way we need the customer's to make money and we need the money to meet our wants and needs, so my dream is a bit unrealistic I guess, but yeah you can say being a NOC engineer is my dream job in IT at the moment."It's better to try and fail than to fail to try." Unkown

As far as IT/InfoSec, I have an excellent gig already, full remote, trying to stay ahead of the bad guys and figure out what they are doing before they do it.
@NetworkNewb: Keep looking, they are out there... My current company, I get $5250 a year in tuition assistance, plus the CSO's org gets a budgeted amount of funds per head per year for training (typically in the 3500-6000 range per person), Toward the middle of the 3rd quarter, it gets re-evaluated and if people are not using theirs it gets thrown into a 1st come, 1st serve pool across the org) Our last CSO, and current one both believe in training to the point that once the budget is approved, training is one of the very last thing that can be reduced... projects get canceled/pushed out to next year before training gets cut.
