How Do You Connect a PC to a 2500 Series Router with CAT5 ?
Obliged
Hello I am new here...
I want to test a refurb 2514 Router to my PC. I do not know what the IP is of the router to use Hyper Terminal.
Would I use a crossover CAT5 cable to connect from my PC's NIC to the Console port on the Router?
How would I find/change the IP to connect to the router?
Thanks,
Sydney

Hi and welcome to the forums.
Would I use a crossover CAT5 cable to connect from my PC's NIC to the Console port on the Router?
No, not a crossover but a rollover.
When you connect through the console port you don't connect over IP, so you don't need an IP address. Check out our Hardware TechLab for the basics on how to set up your cables and connections:

And our CCNA page for more information and goodies:

OK thanks... my problem was trying to connect from the aux directly to the NIC instead of from the Console to the serial port.
Your labs are a great help... thank you so much for your time and effort.
