I'm having problems opening a excel file, when i try to open it it gives me a error saying the file format is not valid. are there any solutions for this or have i lost that file fo good?? its an important file please share your ideas thanks.

was the file oringally created with excel? does it have the correct extension?

yes originaly created in excel, and .xls is the extension

okay. i think that rules out microsoft works as it has different extensions to those in office. could the file have been created with a newer or older version of excel than the one you are using?
