If you want to get technical, English is considered an official language of Panama.
But it's not their first, and I don't think a Panamanian Sr. Network Engineer would speak English to his Panamanian employees. Still, derogatory remarks, especially when formatted to make fun of how someone speaks (or types) isn't a very constructive way to answer a legitimate question.

She was the most senior admin on the staff and that was the actualy HR/company title for her. She was cool to boot!
I'm going to go ask my HR manager if I can have my title changed to that. Never mind that I'm a big, muscly guy with a beard. . . I'd just love to see the looks on people's faces at conventions and tradeshows when I give out my business cards.

Well it actually depends because if you work for a multinational company that came here from for example USA like Dell... you have to speak to their bosses in english because welli think they just speak english :P and you have to speak to them in english hehe. -

Heh, heh, heh. . . leave it to Dell to make the whole world scramble to put another skill on their resumes. Like studying for CCNA and MCSE wasn't enough, now you have to learn the language of whatever company sets up shop in your backyard.

NightShade1 Member Posts: 433 ■■■□□□□□□□You k now someting funny, when dell arrived here, there is someone i know that was hired for dell(i dont remenber his position in the company) then they were paying him USA salary.... he was doing 5k/month, here, thats like 12k/month there lol i mean he was like what? 23 years old guy that had like a 12k/month salary rofl!
Then dell realized like ummmmmmmmm we are like paying too much and reduced him his salary to haft, so he was like noooooooooo!!!! haha This is why i think thats ONE of the reasons of why they and many multinational companies(callceneters) are moving here i mean they can even pay low salaries here which are still high here and save lot of money.
I mean a salary of 700/month for your first job here is high all you need to know is speaking english and that is, you dont need any other knowledge.... even a friend of mine that doesnt know anythinhg of comps was hired as tech support just because he speaks english... lol he was surpriced himself when he got the job.... well now he knows something but at the beggning he didtn know a ****. -

Good to see a fellow panamanian here . The salaries in Panama are very pathetic, I believe that the minimum wage is at around $200 a month. Don't know how the IT scene is in Panama but from what I've read sofar it looks like Dell has operations over there. Heck, if they were paying me the amount of money your friend was making down there I'd be living like a king -
NightShade1 Member Posts: 433 ■■■□□□□□□□Yeah salaries are really low here.. but hey! we dont get owned by the taxes like you in USA so at the end is like the same O_o
If i get a salary of like 5k its like 10k in USA its the same.... i mean ppl would live in the same way i mean for the stuff they can afford...
