Other than a small shopping center with a Subway and Wendy's it's a 15 minute drive just to get to a decent place to eat for me. Normally I don't have time for that so I eat Subway or don't eat at all sometimes.

I am amazed by what you guys eat. I only get 30mins for lunch so no time to get out for anything I take a sandwich with me and try to vary it everyday. Also fruit to try and get the recommended 5 a day in.
Except on a Friday we have a delivery and I usually get a bacon butty :D

I think everybody knows the values of having a balanced diet. I might add I rarely drink tea or coffee, only now and again. I always eat fruit and veg in the day no matter what. The health benefits are huge and your diet has an effect on your energy levels. Also I make sure my fat ass does at least an hours walking a day now, it feels great because this also increases your energy levels, it means I can study late without feeling too tired! Everything in moderation is fine, enjoy health, food and living!!!

I tend to travel alot in between multiple locations so it all depends on where I am. If I spend the day in my office then I usually pick my dauther up from school...(She's in Kindergarten and only does the half a day thing for now) and we go to Wendy's or something quick like that before I drop her off at the sitters.

If I'm out and about...my favorite stopping spots would be Portillos, Wendys, Occasionally Chipotle or Taco Bell.

Most often though it will be Jimmy's Johns...they make sandwiches so fast you'll freak.

I tend to eat out at lunch and cook for dinner. I usually skip breakfast altogether.

I work in the "trendy" part of Berkeley, so we've got all kinds of resturants and little food-places to go have lunch. Still, beyond the little sushi-resturants and diners, there are quite a few regular places to get something to pick up, as well as fast food. I usually end up picking up a lunch-special from a Chinese resturant, (you can't go wrong with fried rice/chow mein and some lemon chicken for $4.00,) or going to the Hawaiian Barbecue for a mix-plate. Other than that, I'll try to bring a sandwich or a gigantic cup-o-noodles, or something.

Cool, only 20 minutes or so from my place. :D

Yeah, I ballooned about 75 pounds when I began working in IT. Constant sitting on your butt, plus I ate like crap. When I reached 290 pounds, that was it. Now, I eat a VERY strict diet. If I eat out for lunch, it's always a salad, or a small sub on wheat bread, etc. I've dropped about 35 pounds since I changed my diet at the beginning of the year. Still have a long way to go.

Same here. How long did it take you to drop 35 lbs? I weigh same as you.

On working days I dine out. My usual choice is vegetarian restaurant and it costs me approximately 10$ (full course meal - soup, main course, some breadstuff).

And the portion size is adequate for the price :)

At home it varies a lot in price and choices but I tend to lean towards soups and rice+veggies :)

Just depends upon the small town. Most small towns I've been to have some sort of vegetarian option. Or you can just order the regular and tell them to hold the meat. Then double check because they usually mess that up. :D

Small towns in the middle of the sticks in the South don't do vegetarian.

figured I would bring this back from the dead in lieu of changes. Since I received a paycut at work, I have started to 'brown bag' it at least 4 of 5 times a week to see how much money I can save. If I continue this trend, I should be saving an average of at least $150/month! Thats a substantial amount of savings just on FOOD.

Bummer about the pay cut man. Company not doing well?

I've been trying to brown bag it a bit more too. I put 600 bucks into my car last month for a new valve head. Word of advise, don't by 'Interference' motors. Then yesterday I had a tire blow out on the way to work and had to fix my exhaust....that was another 530 bucks. Plus getting all these certs isn't cheap. It feels like a pay cut to me icon_cry.gif

When I do brown bag it I generally have some kind of soup (campbells chunky healthy series) or leftover spagetti, chicken, ect...

When I go out to eat it's Subway, Arby's, Casa Lapita (mexican), and there is a awesome Thai buffet a few miles down the road.

in the words of the magic 8 ball...
    signs point to YES
icon_lol.gif yea its bad in the construction market...

My bags either consist of a sandwich I compiled the night before, OR that soup OR that chili you can microwave and its lunch size (for $1.20 thats a filling meal along with the rest of your lunch) chips, fruit or fruit cup, and MAYBE some candy. I love pasta, but I can see myself spilling all over my clothes, so I usually bypass it. I just drink my liter of water I refill throughout the day to wash it all down. Except to day I got a soda, I felt like I needed it :) I must say I used to hate bringing my lunch, but Im starting to enjoy it more and more.

Just eat grass like Undomiel. Actually, that would probably be rather expensive in AZ as well...

    Healthy Choice!? icon_tongue.gif

Isn't that basically water instead of broth. I go with the Grilled Chicken Sausage Gumbo or the New England Clam Chowder (full salt/fat versions icon_lol.gif). If I'm not doing soup, it's more than likely leftovers.

I eat out once a week max. Mexican or Asian, and I don't get water or fries (or equivalent), so I keep it between $6-7.

Construction/real estate market....Ouch. That whole market effects virtually everything; hence our current "recession". I wonder how long it will be before things turn around and financials, real estate and construction start making profits.

Sorry, not healthy choice....Campbells Healthy request series...there's like 6 different flavors. Yes, Grilled Chicken & Sausage Gumbo is one of them. I had that today. icon_wink.gif

...especially considering phoenix metro area is either #1 or #2 fastest growing areas in the country. It will bounce back eventually. there is plenty of desert left to build once this market gets going again.

as for the food part. Yea I dont care if its 'organic' or 'healthy'. As long as its cheap and tastes good, then ill eat it. However, you do have to have good self control and be practical about your eating habits for financial and health purposes. I had the 'sirloin burger with country vegetable' soup today. I thought it was really good.

Unfortunately most of the cheap food (McDonalds, BK) is bad and I've been trying to cut back. So if I ever eat cheap food, that's like an extra 45 mins on the treadmill. icon_cry.gif I have noticed that just switching from Soda to water everyday helps loose weight. I do the same thing and just chug water all day. Been trying to eat a bigger breakfast too and eat smaller but more frequent meals.

    PB&J or Ham & cheese
Fruit, mostly bananas, pears, peaches. I'm not to big on apples.
Fruit cups, peaches, pears apple sauce, etc
    yogart
    Power bars
One small pice of chocolate in the afternoon
    Coffee......as much as possible
Water, sometimes bring a cut up lemon. We have an ice maker and filtered water.

Eat out once a week and right now I'm saving $50 a week by brown bagging it.
And in conclusion your point was.....???

Don't get so upset...it's just ones and zeros.

I've stopped the fast food now that I've moved into my house that is 5 minutes away from work.

I come home to eat cereal or peanut butter and honey sandwiches. yay
